10 KEY SKILLS TO BE A GOOD ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT


Being an accounting assistant means to be in charge of financial affairs of an enterprise. An accountant ensures the financial security of an institution. Therefore, he should have strong skills in accountancy and administration. 


1.    Mathematical skills
Calculation is the base of accountancy. A good accountant must be a passionate of mathematics.  
2.    Knowledge of financial principles
Each country has it financial law. A good accountant must know both the financial principles of its country and the financial principles of its institution.
In Cameroon, the OHADA chart’s and the financial law regulate the country’s economy.
3.    Integrity
Honesty is a key attitude for accountant. Most accountants who are not honest always end in jail.
4.    Communication
To preserve his integrity, an accountant should leave traceability of any transactions between employees and administration on one hand, and NGO’s and the institution on the other hand.
Also, he should communicate with his administration on everything he does for the enterprise.
5.    Innovation
Now our days, digital has become an engine in most administration in Cameroon. Digital facilitates task and helps to save or better archives administrative informations.

6.    Enthusiasm
To better succed in this domain, accountant should be passionate in what they do.
7.    Adaptability

8.    Initiative
A good accountant should be able to take initiative for the running of an enterprise. Mr Rosvel, accountant at CECOSDA says “At times, I update employee’s files at NSSF when the director is too busy”. Also, when an employee needs it payment a day before the payment deadline, I can help him, before pleading later at the central administration.
9.    Ability to multitask
A good accountant should be multitasking. Most small enterprises in Cameroon recruit on the base of one employee for two tasks/competences. For example, Mr Temfack, accountant at CECOSDATraining, is both accounting assistant and Human Ressources.
10. Leadership
Good accountant are great leaders; that is role models and patients.
